I was out for a walk when I spotted this beautiful crane. It was quietly concentrating on finding food, seemingly unbothered by me watching from a distance.
There was something lovely about the moment. The crane was simply going about its day, and I was happy to pause and watch.
Later, I came across this poem, The Crane by John Shaw Neilson. It felt like a fitting companion to the moment I had witnessed.
The bird is my neighbour, a whimsical fellow and dim;
There is in the lake a nobility falling on him.
